A French Louis XV style Provençale painted wingback bergère chair from the mid 19th century with new upholstery. This French bergère, born in the Southern region of Provence, features a wing back, adorned in its top with a carved floral crest. The ears, dedicated to providing some privacy and comfort to the sitter, curve down to give birth to the padded arms that scroll nicely on the knuckles. The back, partial arms and seat are covered with a double welt cotton upholstery, with a custom made cushion added to the seat. The ensemble is raised on four cabriole legs with scrolled feet, typical of the Louis XV style. The frame, showing its old light grey / green color, is beautifully complimented by the light hue of the upholstery. With its timeless elegance and great proportions, this French 1840s Provençale bergère chair will be an excellent addition to any living room, bedroom or office.
