A French late 18th century Louis XV style walnut secretaire bookcase from the Rhône Valley with richly carved panels and knee hole desk. Born in the southeastern region of the Rhône Valley during the later years of the 18th century, this 'secrétaire bibliothèque' features a large molded cornice, overhanging a tall and narrow upper cabinet comprising two richly carved doors with delicate scrollwork sitting above two smaller doors flanking a central opening. The knee hole desk showcases three thin hand-carved drawers sitting atop two lateral doors. The ensemble is raised on six feet, two of which are scrolled in the front. With its skillfully hand-carved décor and great proportions, this French Louis XV style walnut bookcase secretary circa 1790 will bring a touch of elegance to any home, whether placed in a bedroom, living room or office.
