A French Louis XVI style painted and carved wood daybed from the 19th century, with twisted ribbon motifs, acanthus leaves and striped fabric. This French painted 'duchesse en bateau' features spectacular carved details on its entire structure. The taller side of the daybed is adorned with a Louis XVI carved ribbon on the crest, while a twisted ribbon molding is gently leading the eye to the scrolled knuckles, accented with acanthus leaves. The seat itself is 56" long and ends with a lower extremity that echoes the décor of the taller side. The ensemble is raised on four fluted tapering legs, accented with carved rosettes on the knees as well as delicate beads. The skirt that connects the legs to one another, reprises the twisted molding and Louis XVI ribbon, thus creating a perfectly harmonious vision. The daybed is painted in a soft grey green color that shows a beautifully aged patina and is covered with a striped fabric that is in good condition. With its graceful Louis XVI lines, nice old finish and beautiful carving, this French 19th century daybed will bring a touch of elegance to any home, whether placed in a bedroom or living room.
