SOLD - French, 18th Century Oval Pastoral Beauvais Tapestries with Giltwood Frames

SOLD - A pair of 18th century small size tapestries from the French manufacture of Beauvais set inside oval giltwood frames. Equal in quality to the Royal manufacture of the Gobelins in Paris, Beauvais targeted a more private clientele. It reached its Golden Age in the 18th century, when these two medallions were made. Each medallion features a pastoral theme, particularly praised in the 18th century. One of these medallions features a crane holding a frog in its long beak surrounded with a garland and ribbon. The upper section is adorned with a shell and acanthus leaves while the lower section depicts delicate bouquets. The second is centered around a peaceful duck, this time with the addition of cornucopias as symbols of abundance. The giltwood frames are decorated with rais-de-coeur motifs and delicate beads. The light pastoral themes, directly inspired by the rocaille taste of the 18th century and the excellent quality of the Beauvais production make this pair of French oval framed tapestries an excellent choice for any living room or bedroom.
