SOLD - Swedish 19th Century Painted Wood Upholstered Sofa with Turned Cross Stretcher

SOLD - A Swedish painted wood sofa from the 19th century with turned cross-stretcher and new upholstery. This charming Swedish sofa features a simple straight back, flanked by two arms accented with a delicate scrolling movement on their upper rails and presenting recessed panels. The seat, back and arms have been recovered with a smooth double welt muslin. The sofa is raised on eight cabriole legs, carved with discreet motifs on the front knees while the skirt is delicately scalloped on three sides. Providing additional support to the ensemble, a turned spindle-shaped cross-stretcher connects the legs to one another. The sofa is painted in a light color typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the homes during the long, dark winters of Sweden. With its graceful lines and lovely finish, this Swedish 19th century sofa will bring an elegant presence to any living room.
