SOLD Pair of French Louis XVI Style 1870s Wingback Bergères Chairs with Upholstery

SOLD A pair of French Louis XVI style wooden wingback bergères chairs from the second half of the 19th century with new upholstery. Each of this pair of French 'bergères à oreilles' features a wing back, carved with a twisted ribbon motif on the upper rail, flanking a central carved crest. The sides, meant to provide both privacy and protection from drafts to the sitter, allow the head to rest gently while reading a book. The partially upholstered arms are scrolled in their extremities. Each chair is raised on four slightly splayed fluted legs, adorned with carved rosettes in the front knees, and visually connected to one another with a twisted ribbon, echoed from the upper section. With their beautifully aged patina contrasting perfectly with the cotton upholstery, along with the elegance of their Louis XVI lines, this pair of French wingback chairs, circa 1870 will compliment any home beautifully, from a bedroom to a living room.
