A French late 18th century wild cherry armoire from Rennes, dated 1792 at the cornice. Born in the capital of Brittany, Rennes in the last year of king Louis XVI reign, this French wild cherry armoire features a large double bonnet cornice, accented in its centre with a delicate carved shell flanked with stylized foliage and dated 1792. Adorned with sawtooth and dentil accents, the cornice sits above two tall doors, arched in their upper section. These doors are decorated with curving panels, outlined with motifs echoed from the crest and a central dividing post adorned with exquisite vertical cartouches and a rosette. They open to reveal three inner shelves offering great storage opportunities. The ensemble is raised on four feet, the front ones showcasing spiralling motifs. With its great proportions and lovely decor, this late 18th century wild cherry armoire from Rennes will bring a touch of French elegance to any home, particularly in a bedroom or living room.
