SOLD - 1820s Swedish Longcase Painted and Carved Mora Clock with Carved Crest

SOLD - A Swedish wooden longcase clock from the early 19th century with original paint. This exquisite Swedish carved and painted clock, circa 1820 features a central finial in the crest, flanked with delightful volutes adorned with discreet foliage decor. The face is marked with the inscription AAS, initials of Krång Anders Andersson of Östnor, traditionally known as the first clockmaker in the district of Mora. The one-hinged teardrop shaped door decorates the center of the curvy body while the lower part of the clock is raised on a slightly scalloped base. The old finish, showing perfect age, reveals a light palette, typical of the Scandinavian taste for pastel colors, chosen to brighten up the dark winters with their short days.
