SOLD - Swedish Karl Johan Style Tall Painted Demilune Cabinet with Balustrade, 1880s

SOLD - A Swedish Karl Johan style wooden painted demilune sideboard with three-quarter baluster gallery and three drawers over three doors from the late 19th century. This Swedish sideboard or demilune cabinet features a delicate balustrade gallery on the top, reminiscent of the terrace of a French chateau. Three drawers decorate the upper section of the facade, the long central one flanked by two smaller ones, placed on the corners' curve. In a perfectly harmonious movement, four doors (a central double door and two lateral ones) are organized symmetrically to the drawers and open to reveal three inner shelves offering great storage opportunities. The ensemble is raised on small block feet. With this piece we see a beautiful style showing a transition between the pure, clean Gustavian style and the decorative refinement of the Karl Johan taste. The decor is minimal, limited to the carved gallery and the golden brass accents. The soft palette, the simple lines softened by the lateral curves and the tall proportions make this Swedish demilune sideboard, circa 1880 a wonderful choice for any living or dining room.
