SOLD - A Swedish period Gustavian Neoclassical upholstered painted wood sofa with beaded swag motifs from the early 19th century. This Swedish painted wooden bench features an exquisite silhouette, typical of the Neoclassical taste for clean lines and Antiquity-inspired motifs. The eye is immediately drawn to the top rail, adorned with delicate beaded swags enlivening the horizontal panel on which they are carved. Various carved moldings such as 'rais de coeur' decorate the body. The tall straight arms are topped with carved urns, creating a vertical accentuation, beautifully balancing the horizontal lines of the bench. Carved medallions adorn the knees. The ensemble is raised on six round tapering legs, visually answering to the presence of the carved urns. The sofa has been upholstered with a checkered fabric, perfectly complementing the classical lines. With its light color palette and pure silhouette, this Swedish 1810s sofa will bring an elegant touch to any décor.
