An English painted wood over mantel mirror from the mid-19th century, with classical tapering pilasters and bevelled glass. Born in the early years of Queen Victoria's reign, this elegant over mantel mirror features a linear light painted body surrounding a large mirror plate. The mirror is topped with a molded cornice with protruding sides. The rectangular mirror plate presents beveled edges and is surrounded by a molded inner frame with curving corners. Our eye however, is immediately drawn to the sides, adorned with classical tapering pilasters accented with reeded capitals while the ensemble is painted in a soft color. With its clean lines and elegant decor, this English painted wood over mantle mirror, circa 1840 will enliven any wall beautifully, particularly placed in a living room.
