SOLD - Late 18th Century Swedish Gustavian Period Light Grey Three-Drawer Commode

SOLD - A Swedish period Gustavian three-drawer commode from the late 18th century, with original hardware, marbleized top, trellis motifs and reeded drawers. This exquisite Swedish chest features a slightly raised rectangular faux-marble top, sitting above a discreet dentil molding, typical of the Gustavian era. The unusual frieze drawer is adorned with a trellis pattern, accented with two diamond motifs. Creating a perfect visual continuity, the trellis runs along the two sides of the chest. The two lower drawers of larger proportions, are reeded and flanked with a low-relief evocation of a semi-column on each side. The vertical accentuation due to the presence of the classical escutcheons, emphasizes the sense of harmony that the commode exudes. The ensemble is raised on four short tapered feet, connected to one another through a simply carved skirt. With its soft pale grey color and elegant Gustavian lines, this Swedish commode circa 1780 will compliment any décor beautifully, whether placed in a living room or bedroom.
