French Period Louis XVI Two-Drawer Commode with Carved Swag, circa 1780-1790 - LNG

A French Louis XVI period two-drawer commode with marbleized top and carved swag from the late 18th century. This French commode features a faux-marble rectangular top with beveled edges sitting over two drawers. Each drawer is adorned with a slightly carved geometrical cartouche, accented with lighter paint and surrounding exquisite hardware. Each bronze handle depicts a central cameo flanked with bouquets of flowers. The side posts are fluted, a motif reprised on the skirt. Our attention is immediately drawn to the carved swag that is hanging below this skirt, creating a perfect visual conclusion to the piece. With its elegant décor inspired from the Greco-Roman antiquity, clean lines and soft color, this French two-drawer commode, born in the 1780s-1790s, the later years of King Louis XVI reign, will be a charming addition to any bedroom, living room or hallway.
