SOLD - A Swedish painted wood five-door and five-drawer enfilade from the late 19th century. This Swedish long buffet features a rectangular top adorned with a carved molding on three sides. The motifs evoke the simplicity of broken arches of an early Gothic period. Directly below the molding are five drawers opening with a wooden pull. Aligned perfectly with the drawers, five doors make up the rest of the body. Two sets of double doors flank the sides while the center is occupied by a single door. They are simply adorned with a play between recessed and raised panels. The doors open to reveal two inner shelves that run through the entire piece. The ensemble is raised on graceful short tapered feet that are slightly curved. The paint, which may not be original but probably added at a later date, is typical of the soft palette particularly valued by Scandinavians who could thus bring more light into their home during the long, dark winters. Placed anywhere in a living or dining room, this Swedish 1880s enfilade will bring a charming presence to any home.
