SOLD - Swedish Neoclassical Early 19th Century Painted Commode with Carved Swags

SOLD - A Swedish Neoclassical painted commode from the early 19th century with original paint and hardware. This Swedish painted commode features a rectangular top sitting above a small upper drawer and three larger ones placed below. Painted in its original light grey color, the commode is adorned with elegant neoclassical motifs inspired by the Antiquity. While the upper drawer is decorated with a frieze of simple swags running on three sides, the lower drawers show an undeniable restraint, as the only decorative accents are their exquisite hardware. The series of central escutcheons is leading the eye to the carved skirt, adorned with a more elaborate swag than the ones shown on the upper drawer. This, along with the carved side posts and short tapered feet, creates a perfectly harmonious facade, making this Swedish Neoclassical chest a wonderful choice for any bedroom, living room or foyer.
