Italian Painted Wooden Cheval Mirror with Neoclassical Decor, Early 20th Century

An Italian painted wood freestanding cheval mirror from the early 20th century. This Italian mirror features a delicately carved body, painted in a soft cream palette with light blue accents. The mirror, reminiscent of an elongated Louis-Philippe, is adorned on the crest with a carved shell flanked with foliage motifs. This tilting mirror is connected to two upright supports, topped with carved finials. Each support is decorated with a neoclassical guilloche and waterleaf décor, reminding us of the taste for antiquity that spread throughout Europe at the end of the 18th century. Thin fluted stems lead the eye to acanthus leaves carved in the lower section of the mirror. The ensemble is raised on scrolled legs, adorned with additional foliage motifs. Its lovely proportions, carved decor and subtle colors make this Italian cheval mirror an excellent choice for any bedroom or lady's dressing.
