SOLD - Pair of Swedish Gustavian Three-Drawer Commodes with Diamond Motifs circa 1840

This pair of Swedish Gustavian three-drawer painted commodes from the mid-19th century features rectangular tops with canted corners in the front over three drawers each. The drawers are beautifully adorned with an elongated reeded diamond motif. A central escutcheon is flanked with two ring pulls. The color palette is very light, which is typical of the Swedish taste for light tones, fighting off the long dark winters. The lines, quite pure in typical Gustavian fashion, are gently softened by the play on the canted side posts and beautiful tapered legs that are also angled. Their petite proportions, calming colors and clean profile would make this pair of Swedish painted commodes, circa 1840 a wonderful addition to any home.
