SOLD - French Louis XVI Period Bleached Oak Commode with Floral Décor, circa 1790

SOLD - This exquisite French Louis XVI period bleached oak commode from the late 18th century features a three-plank rectangular top over three beautifully carved drawers. Each drawer is adorned with delicate floral motifs flanking the central escutcheon while the sides are decorated with bouquets of flowers. Bail handles on oval backplates allow the drawers to open. Reminiscent of the taste for antiquity during the Louis XVI period is the evocation of pilasters on the side posts with delicately carved rosettes. The skirt echoes the decorative vocabulary, with an additional central urn. The commode is raised on four fluted spade feet. The clean lines are typical of the Louis XVI period that showed a reaction to the preceding reign's curves. Its charming décor and fantastic bleached finish that reveals the beauty of the wood make this French Louis XVI commode, circa 1790 a striking accent for any room.
