SOLD - A French Louis XV period mid-18th century walnut armoire from Provence, with bonnet cornice, carved bouquet, molded door panels, foliage motifs and low drawer. Born in southern France during the reign of King Louis XV, this walnut Provençale armoire features a "chapeau de gendarme" bonnet-type cornice, accented with an exquisite carved bouquet of flowers displayed in a wicker basket. Two large doors with molded panels are highlighted with foliage motifs and open to reveal four inner serpentine front shelves offering great storage opportunities. The lower section presents a long drawer fitted with handles standing out beautifully on the cartouche décor surrounding a central medallion. Adorned with both fluted and reeded motifs on the side posts, the armoire is raised on four feet, scrolled in the front and straight in the back. With its great proportions, skilfully carved décor and lovely walnut patina, this French Louis XV period armoire circa 1750 will bring a strong presence to any bedroom or living room.
