SOLD - Rustic French Provincial 1850s Green Glazed Pottery Confit Pot with Two Handles

A French green glazed pottery confit pot from the mid-19th century with two handles and unglazed base. Created in France during the early years of Napoleon III's reign, this confit pot features a green glaze in its upper section dripping on the unfinished base. Traditionally used in Southern France to preserve duck or goose into its own fat and make it into various succulent dishes such as foie gras or confit, the pot was buried in the ground. Its double handles allow it to be moved more easily. With its nice proportions and sought after green glaze, this French confit pot circa 1850 will bring a touch of tradition and authenticity to any home.
