SOLD - French 19th Century Framed Oil Painting of a Chapel Near Pont-Aven, Brittany

SOLD - A French 19th century framed oil on wood painting depicting the chapel of Trémalo near Pont-Aven, Brittany. This petite French oil on wood painting depicts a chapel located near the artistic town of Pont-Aven in Northwestern France. Famous for its Ecole de Pont-Aven that included Paul Gauguin, the town is still to this day a vibrant artistic community. It is therefore not a surprise that our artist chose to depict a church from the vicinity. Typical is the steeple and the very slanted roof, telltale sign of the frequent bursts of rain Brittany is famous for. The soft palette is mostly made of grey, beige, brown, green and blue tones that highlight the sweetness of the scene beautifully. Set inside a painted and subtly carved wooden frame, this oil on panel painting is signed lower right. With its petite proportions and charming scene, this French 19th century landscape painting will be a lovely decorative accent in any home.
