SOLD - French Framed 19th Century Watercolor Depicting Women in Traditional Costumes

A French framed watercolor from the 19th century depicting a village scene with women in traditional costumes, signed R.G. Born during the politically dynamic 19th century, this framed watercolor features a lovely palette made of pastel tones. A quiet scene is presented to our eyes: A small group of women sitting on each side of a small street, is sewing. The unfinished facial features preserve the anonymity of the characters and help us focus our attention on their calm attitudes. Wearing traditional costumes, they are conversing with one another while handling their work. The soft blue sky in the background revealing a glorious day, contrasts beautifully with the russet tones of the slanted roofs. Signed R.G lower right, this lovely watercolor is set inside a simple yet elegant rectangular frame. With its humble subject and unpretentious quality, this French 19th century painting will enliven any wall beautifully.
