SOLD - French Louis XIII Style Barley Twist Wooden Table from the Late 18th Century

SOLD - A French Louis XIII style barley twist table from the second half of the 18th century. Born in the later years of the French Ancien Régime, this wooden table features a rectangular planked top with bevelled edges, sitting above a simple apron with discreet carved rosettes on the knees. The table is raised on an exquisite barley twist base made of four legs connected to one another with a cross stretcher, accented in its centre with a carved finial. The grand simplicity of the top (with a 6.5" overhang on each end) is perfectly balanced by the intricate design of the base, highly reminiscent of the Louis XIII era marked by its enthusiastic use of geometrical motifs. With its elegant lines and beautiful patina, this French barley twist table, circa 1780, will bring a touch of authenticity to any home, perhaps used as a sofa table.
