SOLD Pair of Swedish Gustavian Style Painted Chests with Drawers and Door, circa 1900

SOLD A pair of Swedish Gustavian style painted wood chests from the early 20th century, with carved moldings, drawers and doors. Each of this unusual pair of Swedish chests features a slightly raised rectangular top with canted corners in the front, sitting above a carved molding with arched motifs running on three sides. Each chest shows a unified façade with graduated drawers. Upon closer attention however, one will discover that the second chest comprises two faux-drawers in the lower section, hiding an actual door. The illusion is quite perfect! The canted side posts with fluted motifs in the front, respond beautifully to the presence of the short angled tapered feet. The chests are painted in a light color typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the homes during the long, dark winters. With their clean lines and elegant décor, this pair of Swedish Gustavian style chests circa 1900 will bring a graceful presence to any home, whether placed in a bedroom as tall nightstand tables or in a living room.
