SOLD - Southern French Transitional Walnut Side Table with Grooved Motifs, circa 1770

SOLD - A southern French transitional walnut side table from the third quarter of the 18th century, with carved apron and cabriole legs. Born at the end of the reign of King Louis XV at a time when the Rococo style was transitioning to calmer, more classic lines, this French side table features a rectangular overhanging top with slightly raised rim, typical of the productions of the South of France. The apron is adorned with an exquisite repetition of grooved motifs on all sides, typical of the Louis XVI style. The long drawer opens thanks to a bronze handle with flower-shaped backplate. The table is raised on four cabriole legs, whose curvy lines are reminiscent of King Louis XV style. With its graceful Silhouette showing the transition between two stylistic eras and its lovely walnut patina, this French 1770s side table will bring a touch of elegance to any home.
