SOLD - Pair of Swedish Gustavian Style 1870s Commodes with Dentil Molding and Rosettes

A pair of Swedish Gustavian Style painted wood three-drawer commodes from the late 19th century, with dentil molding, carved rosettes and fluted side posts. Born in Sweden in the third quarter of the 19th century, each of this pair of painted commodes features a rectangular top with protruding corners, sitting above a delicately carved dentil molding. Three drawers, the thinnest one located at the top, make up the façade. They are each fitted with elegant brass classical hardware. The side posts are adorned with elongated carved rosettes in the upper section, leading our eye to the fluted motifs below. Each commode is raised on four tapered feet angled in the front, in typical Gustavian manner. The commodes are painted in a soft color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for light palettes, aiming at brightening the homes during the long winters of Sweden. With its clean lines and lovely décor, this pair of Swedish painted commodes, circa 1870 will bring a graceful presence to any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom or living room.
