SOLD - Pair of Late 19th Century Swedish Gustavian Style Painted Three-Drawer Commodes

A pair of Swedish cream painted Gustavian style three-drawer commodes from the late 19th century, with canted side posts and tapered feet. Born in Sweden during the last quarter of the 19th century, each of these wooden chests features the stylistic characteristics of the Gustavian period. A rectangular top with canted corners in the front, sits above an elegant façade made of three drawers, each fitted with classical brass hardware. The canted side posts, accented with flowers at the top and fluted motifs, lead our eye to the short tapered feet, angled in the front, on which each commode is raised. They are painted in a light color typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the homes of Sweden during the long winters. With their clean lines and lovely finish, these Swedish Gustavian style commodes, circa 1880 will bring a touch of relaxed elegance to any home, particularly placed in a bedroom or living room.
