An Italian Rococo style green painted two-drawer commode from the 19th century. This exquisite Italian chest of drawers is painted in a soft green color with gilded highlights. Delicate painted cartouches on the drawers surround floral motifs with white, red, orange, blue and purple accents among other colors. Several birds have found shelter on the drawers and one seems to be landing on a poppy’s branch behind the curvy rococo hardware while another is taking care of its nest. The side posts are accented with additional garlands of flowers and the side panels are adorned with trellised c-scrolls and bouquets of orange flowers. The apron, scalloped on three sides, is raised on four cabriole legs, particularly favored during Rococo times. Reminiscent of an era that saw the triumph of curves and when the color green was particularly praised, this Italian pastoral three-drawer commode circa 1850 would bring a charming elegance to any room, particularly a bedroom.
