SOLD - Pair of Swedish 19th Century Gustavian Style Painted Chests with Waterleaf Motif

A pair of Swedish Gustavian style painted wood three-drawer chests from the 19th century, with carved waterleaf motifs, rosettes and faux-marble tops. Born in Sweden during the 19th century, each of these Gustavian style painted chests features a rectangular faux-marble top with canted corners in the front, sitting above a waterleaf themed molding. Three dovetailed drawers, each fitted with classical brass hardware, make up the rest of the façade while the canted side posts with carved rosettes, lead our eye to the short tapered feet, angled in the front. The chests are painted in a light blue grey color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for light palettes, aiming at brightening the homes during the long winters of Sweden. With their clean lines and delicate décor, these Swedish 19th century Gustavian style chests will bring a touch of neoclassical elegance to any home, whether placed in a living room or bedroom.
