SOLD A French Louis XVI period painted and gilded trumeau mirror from the 18th century, with carved allegory of the Liberal Arts. Born in the later years of the 18th century, at the end of the reign of king Louis XVI, this exquisite trumeau mirror features a linear painted frame, perfectly accented with a hand carved giltwood décor. Adorning the upper section of the mirror, musical instruments such as a lute and a clarinet symbolizing Liberal Arts, stand out on a ribbon-tied foliage. The sides are decorated with pilaster-inspired motifs, embellished with tassels and bouquets. The central mirror plate, showing nice signs of aging, is surrounded by a delicate bead-and-reel molding. With its clean lines, lovely décor and great proportions, this French Louis XVI trumeau mirror, circa 1790 will be a great focal point in any home, perhaps placed above an enfilade, commode or sofa.
