Born in the later years of the 18th century, at the end of the reign of king Louis XVI, this exquisite trumeau mirror features a linear painted frame, perfectly accented with a hand carved giltwood décor. Adorning the upper section of the mirror, musical instruments such as a lute and a clarinet symbolizing Liberal Arts, stand out on a ribbon-tied foliage. The sides are decorated with pilaster-inspired motifs, embellished with tassels and bouquets. The central mirror plate, showing nice signs of aging, is surrounded by a delicate bead-and-reel molding. With its clean lines, lovely décor and great proportions, this French Louis XVI trumeau mirror, circa 1790 will be a great focal point in any home, perhaps placed above an enfilade, commode or sofa.
