SOLD - 18th Century French Baroque Style Painted Wood Flying Cherub Wall Decoration

18th A French painted wood Baroque style flying cherub wall decoration from the 18th century. This French painted wood ornament features a flying cherub that was probably part of a larger composition. The chubby character, dressed on the waist with a cloth showing remnants of a blue color, is flying away, with his head turned towards the right. The artist conveyed here the impression that the cherub is on a mission of some sort. The Baroque period, following the directives of the counter-reformation, focused on representations that would grab the attention of the viewer and make him feel like that he's observing a scene that is happening right in front of his eyes. As such, this French 18th century painted panel would be following this pattern, making it a wonderful addition to any décor, hung above a commode, in a hallway or staircase.
