SOLD: French Louis XVI Period Provençal Sofa Signed by Pillot from Nîmes, circa 1790

SOLD; A French Louis XVI period Provençal sofa from the late 18th century, signed by Pillot from Nîmes with new cotton upholstery. Created by Pierre Nicolas Pillot, cabinet-maker who worked in the South of France at the end of the 18th, early 19th century, this Louis XVI canapé features an oval-shaped back, topped with a delicate floral carving on its upper rail. Two partially upholstered open arms with scrolling knuckles flank the rectangular seat presenting a custom-made cushion, while the sofa is raised on seven tapered legs with fluted accent and low-relief carved rosettes on the knees. The apron showcases a discreet carved motif in its center. With its graceful silhouette and lovely patina, this Louis XVI upholstered sofa circa 1790 will bring a touch of French elegance to any home, particularly in a living room.
