SOLD - A French Louis XV period cherry Provençale chapeau de gendarme armoire from the late 19th century, with basket and kissing doves. Born in Provence at the end of King Louis XV's reign, this stunning cherry armoire features a 'chapeau de gendarme' cornice, beautifully adorned with a carved wicker basket topped with two kissing doves. Two arched doors with molded panels, open to reveal inner shelves and drawers offering great storage opportunities. Raised on four legs, scrolled in the front and straight in the back, the armoire finds its perfect conclusion in the apron, carved on three sides and presenting low-relief floral motifs. With its graceful lines, great proportions and lovely cherry finish, this Provençale Louis XV bonnet type armoire with kissing doves circa 1770 will bring an undeniable touch of elegance to any bedroom or living room.
