SOLD English Brass High Victorian Period Terrestrial Telescope, circa 1850 on Stand

SOLD An English High Victorian brass terrestrial telescope on stand from the mid 19th century. While the earliest known telescope appeared in the Netherlands in 1608, it is Galileo who improved on this design and applied it to astronomy. As a matter of fact, he spent his time improving on the telescope, producing pieces of increased power. Our telescope however, is a terrestrial one, meaning that unlike the astronomical ones, it presents an arrangement of lenses allowing the viewer to see a non-inverted image of objects found on the surface of the earth. Mounted on a tripod base, its golden hue and nice proportions will make this English Victorian terrestrial telescope circa 1850 an excellent decorative accent in any room, whether placed on a desk, console table or enfilade.
