A French Régence period canapé from the early 18th century, with carved motifs and new upholstery. Born in France during the transition of power between the late Louis XIV and his great-grandson Louis XV who was too young to reign, this exquisite sofa features a nicely carved back adorned with scrolled acanthus leaves flanking a central shell. Two open and partially upholstered arms with scrolling extremities, rest on a rectangular seat presenting a custom made cushion. The sofa is reupholstered with a double welt fabric and the ensemble is resting on four cabriole legs decorated with foliage motifs, connected to one another through a carved apron on three sides. With its elegant Régence lines announcing the Louis XV style and lovely patina, this French canapé circa 1720 will bring an undeniable touch of elegance to any living room or bedroom. The seat is 23" deep. This is a fragile canapé.
