A French painted wood two-part bookcase from the mid-19th century, with glass doors over wooden doors and drawers, decorated with fluted motifs and diamond patterns. Born in France in the early years of Emperor Napoleon III's reign, this large painted bookcase features a molded cavetto cornice, sitting above three doors with paneled glass, flanked with fluted motifs. The bookcase's lower section presents three wooden doors surrounding three central drawers adorned with elongated diamond patterns. All doors open to reveal a convenient storage space, with inner shelves in the upper section. Raised on a scalloped plinth, the bookcase is accented with recessed panels on the sides and is painted in a soft color complimenting the clean lines beautifully. With its nice proportions and lovely distressed finish, this French painted bookcase circa 1850, will bring an elegant presence to any home, particularly in a living room.
