A French Louis XVI period Provençal painted sofa from the late 19th century, with new upholstery, fluted legs and side stretchers. Born in Provence during the reign of King Louis XVI, this French painted sofa features an arched back, connected to two curving arms flanking the long rectangular seat presenting a custom cushion. The arms, along with the back and seat, have been reupholstered with a double welt fabric. The ensemble is raised on six legs, the front ones being fluted and connected through a carved apron with low-relief foliage. Side stretchers connect the legs to one another. With its weathered painted finish, clean lines and subtle decor. This Provençal Louis XVI sofa, circa 1780 will bring a classical touch to any living room or bedroom. The seat is 22 inches deep.
