SOLD - 1790s French Louis XVI Period Aqua Painted Two-Drawer Commode with Carved Skirt

A French Louis XVI period aqua painted wooden two-drawer commode with carved skirt and tapered legs from the late 18th century. This French painted commode features a rectangular top with canted corners in the front, sitting above two dovetailed drawers with incised outlines and brass hardware. The canted side posts are discreetly fluted but it is the skirt that attracts all the attention with its scoop patterns that gently lead the eye to the central Louis XVI knot with foliage. The ensemble is raised on four fluted tapering legs. The beautifully distressed finish along with the pure clean lines perfectly accented by the exquisitely carved decor, will make this French Louis XVI chest, circa 1790, an elegant yet unpretentious choice for any home, from a bedroom to a living room.
