French Neoclassical 1810 White Painted Three-Drawer Commode with Bronze Mounts - PENT

A French neoclassical period painted wood three-drawer commode from the early 19th century. This French commode features a rectangular top with rounded corners in the front, surmounting three drawers, a smaller one at the top over two larger ones. This upper drawer, divided into three rectangular sections, is flanked with bronze mounts on the sides, while the two lower drawers are framed with half fluted columns. The linear bail handles that decorate each drawer lead the eye to the central oval escutcheon adorned with a Louis XVI knot. The ensemble is raised on four cylindrical tapering legs. The Directoire influence as well as the graceful lines, combined with the beautifully weathered off-white finish, make this French 1810 chest-of-drawers a stylish choice for any living room, bedroom or foyer.
