SOLD - French 19th Century Bucolic Oil on Canvas Painting with Chickens and Roosters

Two French 19th century oil on canvas rooster and chickens paintings, signed and framed, priced and sold separately. Each of this pair of French paintings features a grouping of roosters and hens roaming around a barn. The palette is made of brown and green tones, delicately accented by red, white and blue accents. The light is cast on the centre of the composition, allowing the animals to stand out beautifully. The painting with the ladder showcases a perfect use of diagonals that give depth to the ensemble. The rooster, very alert, is looking directly at us, making us part of the scene. The pendant painting adopts a closer focus, with the brood flanking a central door. In a manner that was so dear to Jean-François Millet, the artist took a humble subject and treated it in a dignified manner. Set inside a wooden frame, each painting is signed lower right. With its delicate palette and bucolic theme, each painting will bring a touch of authenticity to any wall. While these French 19th century paintings would look wonderful as a pair, we are selling them individually: $2,950 each.
