French Louis XV Period 1740s Cévenole Fruitwood Commode with Bronze Hardware - VAB

A French Louis XV period mid-18th century two-drawer fruitwood commode with bronze Rococo hardware, from the Cévennes region. Born in the mountainous south-central area of France during the reign of King Louis XV, nicknamed "The Beloved", this exquisite Cévenole commode features a planked top with molded edges and serpentine front, sitting above two hand-cut dovetailed drawers, beautifully adorned with bronze Rococo hardware. The golden hue of the handles and escutcheons compliments the richness of the fruitwood patina beautifully. The skirt is delicately scalloped on three sides, with a motif resembling an inverted 'accolade'. The frontal side posts are discreetly carved with molded motifs that lead our eye to the cabriole legs on which the commode is raised in the front (the back ones being straight). With its elegant yet understated Louis XV lines and lovely patina, this French commode, circa 1740 will bring a touch of refinement to any home, whether placed in a living room, bedroom or foyer.
