Born in France at the end of Louis XVI's reign, this commode features a rectangular top with rounded corners in the front, sitting above two dovetailed drawers each fitted with brass hardware and a brass trim. The side posts present a nicely cylindrical fluted design in the front that visually links the drawers to one another, while the side panels are simply recessed and each adorned with a thin brass trim. The ensemble is raised on four cylindrical tapering legs, presenting a lovely continuity with the side posts. With its clean neoclassical lines and nice patina, this French Louis XVI period 1790s commode will bring a graceful presence to any home, particularly in a bedroom, living room or foyer.
