Created in Provence during the 19th century, this Southern French wedding cabinet showcases the delicate transition of style between the Louis XV and Louis XVI taste. Topped with a chapeau de gendarme (bonnet) cornice, the armoire is adorned with a carved ribbon surrounding a central medallion, with a basket evoking prosperity for the bride and groom. Carved in low-relief with foliage and flanked with fluted side posts, two paneled doors open to reveal inner shelves and hidden drawers.
