SOLD - English Victorian Period 19th Century Magnifying Glass with Sword Handle

SOLD - A large English Victorian period wooden magnifying glass from the 19th century, with sword handle. Created in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, this magnifying glass reminds us of the evolution of reading aids throughout the ages starting in the 11th century with reading stones made of polished and shaped rock crystals or glass and placed flat onto a text. Centuries later, the magnifying glass as seen here was used in society on a regular basis. Our particular magnifying glass however, charms us with its unusual design! Showcasing a traditional brass casing surrounding the circular glass, this piece presents a turned wooden handle shaped as a 17th century sword. Boasting a nice patina with complimenting colors, this English Victorian period brass and wood magnifying glass from the 19th century will make for a charming decorative addition to any home, particularly in an office or den, perhaps placed on a desk's top or on a bookshelf.
