An Italian Directoire period wooden commode from the late 18th century, with three graduated drawers, Classical brass hardware and horizontal accents. Created in Italy during the later years of the 18th century, this Directoire wooden commode features a rectangular top sitting above three drawers showcasing am increasing size. They are each fitted with brass pulls on brass Classical style hardware, flanking a central escutcheon of similar design. The drawers' dovetail construction reveals the chest's good age. The side posts are marked with pilaster reminiscent motifs. The sides are made of recessed panels divided into three separate sections. The back is, of course, unfinished. The ensemble is raised on four tapered legs.
