Created in France during the last decade of the 19th century at a time when the Impressionists roamed the countryside to express their vision, this painted commode features a rectangular top with serpentine front and beveled edges, sitting above three drawers. Fitted with brass hardware, the drawers showcase a dovetailed construction revealing its age. The sides are plain and the back is unfinished, as expected. The commode is painted in a soft color whose nice distressing compliments the rustic character beautifully. The ensemble is raised on two bun feet in the front and two block feet in the back.
