Created in Sweden during the second quarter of the 19th century, this painted sofa showcases the stylistic characteristics of the Gustavian era. The bench features a stick back accented with turned finials in the corners. The rectangular seat with upholstery in used condition lifts up to reveal a convenient unfinished interior ideal to store blankets, shoes or other items of your choice. The lower section features carved diamond motifs running along the three sides. The back is sans décor. The bench is raised on six short tapered feet with discreet fluted accents. The ensemble is painted in a soft color typical of the Swedish taste aiming at brightening the rooms during the dark winters of Scandinavia.
