A French, Louis XV style walnut canapé from the mid-19th century, with wraparound back, scrolled arms, cabriole legs and new beige upholstery. This French canapé features a delicate wraparound back, adorned with a shell-carved crest as well as tall, partially upholstered arms. The rectangular seat comprises a single custom-made cushion. The sofa is raised on short cabriole legs, accented with acanthus leaves on their knees and scrolled feet, and connected to one another with a discreetly scalloped skirt. The sinuous lines, typical of the Louis XV style, are not overdone and the refined carved décor remains subtle. Add the undeniable charm of the wraparound silhouette, and you have a piece that is both elegant without being overbearing, making this French canapé circa 1850 an excellent choice for any living room or bedroom.
