An exceptional and rare pair of large Italian candlesticks in silvered wood, dating to the first half of the 18th century. Masterfully carved, each candlestick features three expressive angel heads emerging from lush, flowing drapery—an extraordinary level of detail that reflects the skill of early Baroque woodcarvers. The sculptural forms are rich yet harmonious: voluted bases, fluted stems, and deeply modeled wings and curls that catch the light beautifully beneath the worn silver finish.
The scale of the pair is impressive, making them suitable as statement pieces on a console, altar table, or mantel. Their presence is architectural, almost theatrical, yet softened by the tender faces of the angels. Surviving as a matched pair of this size and complexity is uncommon, and the patina of age—gently worn silver over warm wood—adds depth and authenticity that cannot be replicated. A remarkable example of early 18th-century Italian devotional carving, full of grace, movement, and history.
