French 19th Century Louis XV Style Cherry Bonnetière with Intricate Hardware

This charming early 19th-century bonnetière, crafted in the Louis XV style, hails from the Charente region of France. Originally created in Normandy, bonnetières became popular throughout France during the 18th century, designed to hold bonnets and traditional headpieces known as "coiffes." The armoire features a single door with a beautifully carved recessed panel. Topping the piece is a large cornice with canted sides, while the frieze below is adorned with a central star-inlaid motif. The canted side posts are fluted and crowned with petite dentil molding beneath each capital. Exquisite hardware enhances both the door and lower drawer, with the door opening to reveal three inner shelves. The lower drawer, drawing attention with its intricate hardware, showcases a striking star in a diamond inlaid motif. The entire piece rests on short scrolled feet, connected by a delicately scalloped apron. With its pleasing proportions and warm patina, this French early 19th-century Louis XV style cabinet will make a lovely addition to any room.
